CalArts virtual music audition/interview

CalArts says that after students submit their application and portfolio requirements (for the music school) all applicants except those who applied to a few specific majors, “may be contacted to schedule an online interview/audition with Faculty.”
So if a student hasn’t been contact to schedule such an interview does that mean they likely aren’t getting in? Any insight? Application was submitted in mid December.
Thank you.

I tried to research this and found what you cited:

“In an effort to ensure the safety of all our our applicants and faculty, we will not be holding live auditions this year. You should upload all of your portfolio requirements to you application. After submitting their application and portfolio, all applicants (except those applying to the Jazz, Composition & Experimental Sound Practices, Music Technology, and all World Music specializations* ) may be contacted to schedule an online interview/audition with Faculty. See the specific admissions requirements of the individual programs in the left menu.”

I also saw a sentence that indicated that the portfolio could “duplicate” the audition. Are yoy appling for Jazz, Composition & Experimental Sound Practices, Music Technology, or World Music specializations?

If not, I would honestly call admissions for the Herb Alpert school and ask. (It could mean that they liked your portfolio enough so they don’t need an audition-? The possible interpretations are not only the negative one!)

It looks to me as if, in certain disciplines, they are just using the portfolio materials submitted.

Thank you for your encouraging words. Yes maybe I’ll just reach out to them.

Good luck! Great school…
