Do colleges recalculate GPA? (Specifically Brown, Columbia, Harvard)
I found out that my unweighted gpa according to my school (sophomore year) is a 3.91, which is ridiculous because my school calculates it very differently. I’m extremely worried that 3.91 is terrible for my dream college and I don’t think it’s even supposed to be a 3.91. I’m currently a junior and these are my grades as follows.

Freshman Year
Computer apps: 99 Health/PE:98 (required non-academic classes)
Eng H: 97
Geo H: 96
Bio H: 98
US Hist H: 99
Spanish 2: 98

Sophomore Year
Eng H 98
Health/PE:99
Alg 2H: 99
Chem H: 97
AP World: 99
Spanish 3H:100

Junior Year (not included in the 3.91 gpa my school calculated)
Physics H: 97
Trig H: 97
AP Lang: 95
Spanish 4H: 98
AP Chem: 95
AP Euro: 100

What would actually be my gpa for sophomore, is it really 3.91? And what would be with freshman and junior year grades?
Also, I took the hardest classes I was allowed to take for each year, there are required classes like PE and computer apps, and I could only take one AP class sophomore year.

I know that as of a few years ago, Brown did not recalculate GPA. I have no reason to think the policy has changed, but I can’t talk authoritatively about it. Admissions officers look at your transcript for rigor (are you taking tough classes?) and grades. If your school ranks, they want to know your rank.

I’m confused about your question, since your school appears to give numerical grades. What is on your transcript – the grades you listed above, or are they somehow converted to letter grades? Based on what you’ve told us, your GPA for sophomore year is 98.67, which is pretty darn good. (Unless there are a dozen kids with 98.68+).

Some colleges do recalculate GPA, and each school does it differently. Please remember that your transcript is judged based on your school, and is not compared to other schools. If your school says you can take only one AP soph year, that won’t be held against you and you won’t be compared to kids who go to high schools that allow students to take 5 APs sophomore year. And colleges certainly understand that there are required classes that students have to take.

Your transcript looks amazing – really really good grades. Assuming you keep this up, this won’t be a deterrent to selective college admissions.

my lord. Have we really reached the point where a 3.91 GPA is considered not good enough for any school in the country or is this unwarranted college anxiety?

It looks like you got 4.0 if you don’t count Junior year as per this GPA scale - [GPA Scale](How to Convert Your GPA to a 4.0 Scale • GPA Calculator)

You have to score less than 93 to get lower than A, which then might affect your GPA to go down below 4.0

Per your grades, it looks like you have 4.0., so not sure how did they calculate it.

Good luck :)
