If you can get your hands on a TI n-spire, that would be best. It can solve equations by just plugging them in and graphing really helps from problems that ask about asymptotes (totally doable w/o calc, but much faster with one)

The OP has a scientific calculator, which should be able to handle trig. I got an 800 on the math, and I don’t think a graphing calculator is necessary. It will help, but if you can get a 780+ without it, and don’t need to get an 800, you’ll be fine without one.

Okay ive considered all of ur opinions and have come to the decision that i will not buy a graphing calc after all because just as RAlec114 said it takes time to get used to woking with it.I had a good look at a graohing calculator and i thought that learning up all the program keys and stuff would be too painful a process 2 days before the test. Thanks for your advice though everybody!! :)

@Malfunction:I AM ‘dying’ for an 800 as you said!

@Everybody-I’ll get back to you about how i fared with just a scientific on jun 5!

What grade are you in? Because chances are that you’ll need it in highschool eventually. (I use it at least once a week for precalculus)
Truthfully, I think it would be exceptionally hard to get an 800 without a graphing calculator. Its hard enough to get through all the problems with a graphing calculator, I cant imagine how it would be without one.
HOWEVER learning to use a graphing calculator (At least the TI ones) would be close to impossible in 2 days. I know one girl who switched from 84 to 89, and completely failed at learning how to use it in a week.
Also, if you have a REALLY good scientific calculator (can do matrices/ tables of graphs/ fraction/ reduce radical/ solve equations), then a graphing wont help that much unless you are 80-90% fluent with it. When I took a practice SAT II in the fall (before I took stats/precalc; i had to take it as a diagnostic test) I did fine with just my scientific (which has all those functions). I didnt get an 800,but that was also because of my lack of knowledge about limits and most of the things on the test.
good luck!

In my school, high-level math classes practically require graphing calculators, and there are often homework assignments which say “graph blah blah blah on a calculator.” So I’m shocked you haven’t used one yet.

Im in high school(senior) doing calculus in class currently.Im also from India(does that light a bulb?). In my high school(or in any other high school in India) you would be laughed at for using a calc(i knw its different in america). We are not allowed calculators in exams and normal classes yet I we go further in syllabus that even AP could hope to.So yeah,we scrape through life pretty well without ANY calc… forget the graphing.

You actually do need a graphing calculator for some questions. For example, how are you going to figure out where (3 sin^2 x) * cos x intersects logx * (.88x)^2.5 without a graphing calculator? This was an actual problem on some released test I found. Most aren’t this kind of question, but there are several problems that require you to find intersections and are impossible to do without a calculator without being a savant. If you’re a savant, you’re already guaranteed 100% on this test anyway.

Go out and buy one, you can find some used pretty cheap, as low as $14.99, maybe lower.

cant do it now.my test is tomorrow…its 9 in the night today here.(time zone difference)

Okayy…I didnt see the difference a graphing would have made on yesterday’s test.
Im not sure if i’ll get an 800 though…lets see coz im confused about a few questions…like that one about

Ln x=e^x or sumthing? It asked what is the value of ln x. How dyou do that anyway?

By plugging that equation into a graphing calculator and using the solve function. ^_^

he he…
I mean the actual way to solve it?? lol.

That’s the only way to solve it… lol jk

Get TI-84 I use TI 84 plus
