Regardless of my future academic path at Tufts, I'm thinking of buying a new calculator before college starts. However, I am planning on trying chemical engineering in the Fall. Is there a specific type of calculator that's not permitted or one that's suggested?
Thanks :)

Your Calculus I-III/Diff.Eq. sequence will not allow calculators for exams. My freshmen engineering friend has gotten along fine with a TI-84, and my sophomore engineering friend has a TI-89. Just have a TI-30 as a backup. You’ll be using MathCAD and similar programs far more anyway.

Thanks. I figured most classes like Calc wouldn’t permit one, which is fine by me. Then I think a good ol’ scientific and TI-84 would probably be good Sweet.

I’m gonna be a senior and I’ve been using my Ti-84 the whole time. I know a few people who swear by their 89s, but Wolfram Alpha/Matlab/Mathcad are just as effective for homework/problem sets.

Thanks! I ended up staying with my Ti-84 and getting a scientific calculator, too. Oh my, I love Wolfram|Alpha. I know that’ll come in handy. Yeah, I’m sure the 84 will be more than satisfactory.
