Hello everyone,
I am currently a junior taking Accelerated Precalculus. My teacher has advised me to take AMDM (Advanced mathematical decision making) instead of Precalculus due to my C. However, I personally would love to take the challenge and I am willing to study in order to cover for my weak math skills. My question is: if I chose not to take Ap caluculus, will it be detrimental to my transcript and will it lower my level of preparation for college math? Has anyone go against their teacher’s recommendation but still managed to do well? If anyone is curious, I am planning to major in neurology.

Haven’t you posted this thread several times in the last month with lots of advice from others? Have you looked into any of the suggestions that have been given to you? I’m wondering what answer you are seeking still.

You seem more concerned about tailoring your transcript for colleges than doing what is best for you academically. If you really want to do what is best for you, then be realistic about what math course you can take next year. You seem more worried about not taking AP Calc for how it will look on your transcript, and not having more AP courses on it. Of course it won’t look as good compared to another student who is taking AP Calc and getting A’s in it, but is that as important as doing what is best for you and then getting into the college that fits you best?
@rubberfall To be honest, I have no idea how to make a choice. My parents are not offering me any advice and I need help. I understand that posting something multiple times can be extremely annoying as I have experienced that before. However, I only wish to gather more suggestions. I assure you that this will be my last post in regards to Ap calculus.
Have you spoken to your teacher as well as the AP Calc teacher? Seriously, it is up to you to do the leg work and make the time to talk to your teachers. We are strangers with no understanding of your math abilities. Would you take a class you were not prepared for just for your transcript? And if you did poorly in it, how would this even make sense for you academically? Share your concerns with these teachers to see if your level of understanding in precalc is sufficient to go to the next level.(it doesn’t sound like it per your current teacher’s recommendation) with summer work and catch-up, by whatever means is available to that end.
The worst that comes of this is hearing the truth so you can do what is best for you.
@rubberfall I have talked with both my current precalc teacher as well as the Ap calculus teacher. The ap calculus teacher told me to consider my precalc teacher’s advice because she knows my math ability the best. The memo I’m getting out of this situation is to not take Ap Calculus, even if I am willing to put all of my effort into ap calculus because apparently I don’t have the mathematical ability. I guess I’ll have to stick with AMDM.Thank you for your advice.
