so is calculus AB hard? I'm thinking of ttaking it over the summer. Do you guys think this is a good or bad idea?

it's highly subjective but overall it's easy, one thing for certain it's easier than precal

i thought pre-cal was a sinch. AB is easier than BC. All i know.

no bc is easier than ab because in ab you don;t really learn too deep to actually even understand the surface of calc while bc you acutally get to touch the surface of calc

wouldnt that make bc harder...investigating more deeply within the class. I dont get how AB would be harder than BC. In BC, you learn AB in half the time...then keep going. How does that make it easier?

oh man i am wasting so much time on CC.

Well...considering what I've been learning in semester 1 of BC, its not too bad. Some weird concepts, but its pretty easy to grasp with some review.

Ummm.... I definately take AB... and theres like maybe 15 people in the class..

Only 2 A's, like 3 B's... the rest... well, C's and D's.

So yea, AB is definately not a "synch."

I've always been confused about this, maybe one of you can help. What exactly is the difference between AB and BC?

AB covers roughly the first semester of a college calc course. BC covers roughly the first year.

At my school, students either go into AB and take a full year to do that college semester, or go into BC and do the whole college year (much faster pace) in one year. AB is only easier than BC because typically the class moves at a slower pace, having less material to cover over the course of the year.

I gather that some kids take AB and then BC at some other schools. Not exactly sure how that works--I guess it's just two years at a slower pace.

haha yeah none of us BC kids can help our AB friends with their homework.
We're always like, "uhhh what is this? We've never learned this?!"

It's relative, your teacher may just be harder.

I wish I took Calc AB. I am stuck in an impossibly-hard Calc BC class that is murdering my average. IMO: if you want an AP level math class, take Calc AB, NOT BC unless you are really sure of your mathematical intellect.

no, i meant...for bc you actually learn and understand a bit of calculus which makes it easier to do calc while in ab you don;t even know what you r doing therefore ab is harder...

Our BC semester exam seemed *so *much harder than the AB, not comparatively, but relative to what we each actually learned.

The average exam grade for BC was about 60 whereas the average for AB was about an 85 hahaha

hmm well...from what I see AB goes more in depth because they take twice the amount of time on a topic than we do, while BC is more about trying to learn everything in time for the AP.

So each is harder in their own way.

I'm taking AB AP right now some of the concepts are kinda hard because they are new but it isn't too bad.. Most people have A's in the class.

that is not true in my school everyone in bc gets 5's and gets a's; however, the ab students struggle b/c they don;t even understand what they r doing so taking ab is literally unfair for these kids
edit: just simply ab is harder b/c it doesn;t cover enough and it's relatively new ideas

Interesting...but they take so much longer to learn everything.

Technically, AB should be "easier."
(Though it's not at my school)
But I guess at your school it's harder for the opposite reasons than at mine.

i think ab is really easy. i got an a+ last semester. though, i should probably be taking bc as i'm really good at math and my friends work doesnt seem that hard, though harder than mine.

i think ab is easy and im pretty sure easier than bc. at least our teacher teaches us the concepts and makes sure we understand they're not just "equations to memorize but geometry to understand". so, that kid's school/teacher is probably just bad. you'll still learn the concepts as long as your teacher teaches them. it's way interesting.
