Alrighty. A quick background story on myself. I was a kid who screwed around a lot in HS.. I was never dumb, I just didn't care. I had a lot of fun in HS and honestly I wouldn't trade it for the world. But after I graduated I planned on going to University of Cincinnati. But my brother got hooked on drugs and treatment is very ex*****ve. I'm not poor, but it definitely put a dent in my parent's pockets. So I went to a CC for 2 years.. My problem was it was too much like HS and I screwed around some more there.. Now I'm at a 4 year university and it's much more serious for me.. I'm in CS and currently taking a java programming course, discrete math class, earth systems and a random multicultural course that isn't worth a damn.

I seem to be grasping Discrete Math better than most kids and there and a lot of them are in Calc 1. I'm also very turned on by math now as opposed to 6 months ago. I understand the necessity of math and I'm to the point where I prefer to do math as opposed to pure memorization classes. Now, I haven't even taken trig or pre cal... But DM is apparently much tougher and more abstract than those classes. I need to take Cal 1 and Cal 2 and eventually Linear Algebra and analysis of data structures ( the bane of cs majors ).

I find myself building my own knowledge in DM.. I'll do it for a few hours every other night (practice problems) and I'm intrigued by it. It has turned me on to continuous math as well.

--- I want to get ahead in math classes and save my parents some money.

So here's the deal... If I'm doing good with DM, what pre req to calc 1 is more important (assuming i test into Calc 1, im getting a tutor to prepare me for the placement test). Is trig more of a necessity or is pre-cal more of a necessity? I really don't want to do both.. Trying to save time and money. Thanks !
