I will only be taking Honors Pre-Calculus during my senior year of high school. Is that sufficient enough to be making the 4 year math requirement at the Cornell Dysom School. It states you have to have one year of calculus but I’m not sure if that would count or not. Thanks!!
Pre-Calculus is not considered to be Calculus.
Okay, thanks. I guess I will most likely have to rule out Cornell.
maybe you can self study calculus
I would not consider myself a rigorous enough student to be able to do so unfortunately. Although I have really high marks in mathematics to this point, it’s not something I could see myself doing efficiently. I’m hoping that taking AP Physics will overcome(at least slightly) the fact that I haven’t taken Calculus.
Don’t take all stated requirements, prerequisites, & deadlines as written in stone. Sometimes they are more flexible than you would think.
http://admissions.cornell.edu/sites/admissions.cornell.edu/files/2017%20Freshman%20Requirements.pdf indicates that “Calculus also required for Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management”.
Can you take the next math course in summer school to get on track to take calculus your senior year?
Are you a junior right now? Is there a way you could skip precalc and go into calc AB?
If you are taking a rigorous Algebra 2 class then I would suggest taking a summer school class in Pre-Calc if you want to try for Calc AP. Many private schools in our area offer this class over the summer. Look into it
Great recommendation to take a summer course for pre-calc, however I unfortunately have an internship this summer. I think I’m going to stick within the Bentley-Babson-BU-Northeastern range of schools rather than trying to kill myself by cramming math classes the next two years
@Anonymous11P The one thing I would have helped my daughter achieve in high school would have been to get through at least AB calc. Plus, how can you take AP physics without calc? Isn’t it required?
Believe it or not calculus is not a prerequisite for AP physics @AlexDad2016
Mind you that is specific to my school. Other schools have their own policies and orders of operation.
@AlexDad2016 – the College Board now offers AP Physics 1 & 2, both algebra-based courses. CB used to offer a one year algebra-based physics titled Physics B, but has now converted the B course into two full years of AP Physics 1 & 2.
You may be thinking of the two Physics C courses: E&M and M, both of which require Calculus. Our HS only offers the two C courses, and I imagine your HS may not have offered B or 1 & 2 either.
point taken thanks
