Calculus

If anyone is good at it can you help me? Please pm me.

What do you need?

An aircraft is climbing at 30 degrees angle to the horizontal. How fast is the aircraft gaining altitude if its speed is 500 mi/h?

Is anyone trying this?

250 mi/hr

Draw the vector components and find the value of the vertical component using the sine function. (if you know the special triangle, it should be obvious)

P.S. this isn't calculus

yea its 250, this is right triangle trig and vectors

This is trig, not calc.

What I don't think you realize is that this is, in fact, not actually Calculus, but, rather, trigonometry.

It can be done as a calculus problem because it is a related rate problem. Come to think of it it is only by chance that the trig works. The correct way of doing it by the way is to find the divative of the sarting quation of sin 30= y/h the sin 30 is constant and therefore becomes zero than you do the product rule of y/h. you substitute numbers for y and h. That is when you use the trig aspect. You do the math and get the answer which i think is 250. The trig works luckily works out. This IS a calculus program but you and I could not see it at first glance. Sorry, I just got tired of people making me think that this was a trig problem. I am in A.P. Calculus not Math B. Thank You and Have a nice day!

no this is trig, it would work no matter what the values are, theres no point in doing calc if you dont have to. if it asked for something different other than the y component of velocity it might be calc. The way it is, this is Math B or Regents Physics (i hope you are from NY haha)

good luck on your CP Precalculus test blueweight!

I don't understand all the sarcasm. What can expect though! All I know is that I got this problem and I had to solve it with Calculus. It might have seemed like a clear Math B problem but I was told that I could only use the derivative to solve it. I cannot believe that such an innocent question became an opportunity for immature people like yourselves to berate me. Anyway, I am getting ready to go out. I hope you enjoy your night with your calculators. Ciao

My calculator and I will have an exceptional night. Just let me know when the results of your College Preparatory Precalculus test come back so I can compliment you if you score well.
