My daughter got acceptance to 3+4 PreMed to MD program. She is applying for other medical schools too. This is the first acceptance that she got. Anyone who is attending the school or know about this school, please share your opinion?
Northstate is a for-profit school so I would very wary of attending and have seen reviews from Medical professionals questioning the quality of the education.
See post #504 in this thread.
As a parent I will not send my child to CNU though I am aware that the nearest BS/MD program for CA residents (I am 80 miles from CNU) is OU which is 1600 miles.
My daughter got acceptance to CNUCOM BS/MD program too. We are planning to attend the Open House to see the facility and discuss with current students before making up our mind to accept.
CNUCOM BS/MD program is not a guarantee to COM? You still have to take MCAT with score 510 or higher?
Is there any one who applied to CNUCOM and didn’t get in? Just curious how competitive this college is?
We are also planning to go to the Open House. Would be nice for the CC members to meet up there, if there is interest.
For those asking about the program, it requires minimum GPA and MCAT like many other BSMD programs, but unlike other BSMD programs, an interview is involved, which means it is not a guaranteed BSMD program. One of the florida universities has such a program where they only guarantee the interview, and if you don’t pass, then you just get to complete BS degree and exit. I’m a bit confused about why CNU is marketing a pathway program like a guaranteed BS/MD program, so I intend to ask about it during Open House.
@Mom22DDs, thanks for your information. We live NJ and planning to attend open house. Got to book tickets, Hotel etc. I appreciate you sharing information.
@Mom22DDs, we thought about attending open house but can’t make it. Can I please ask you to share the information and thoughts after attending the open house? Thanks!
Sure @Pam1972, will do.
We have been asking around about CNU. as stated everywhere, the BS is primarily health focused, federal loans are not available and they will not complete accreditation till they graduate their first batch of students (in 2 years). we haven’t found anything additional of concern. The medical school is increasing class size from 90 to 150, which seems to be in anticipation of the BSMD students, so the interview being required as part of Medical school admission is not that much of a concern for us. Also, the competition for BSMD in general seems insane. we are seeing students with perfect GPA + test scores and outstanding ECs being turned down even before interviews, so we are not convinced about anyone’s chance of even getting into a BSMD, no matter how strong they consider themselves. tbh, we are thankful we have CNU right next to home and are already starting to figure out the AP credits, yearly curriculum etc.
I will let you know what I find out from the open house.
Thanks a lot @Mom22DDs for your information. I agree with you about BSMD programs. I will look forward to hear from you after CNU open house.
@Pam1972 @Mom22DDs My daughter got acceptance to the program as well, the 2 + 4 path. Are they doing a live video of the open house? Also, Just curious, what are your daughters’ stats? If you do not mind sharing, what did they get on the SAT or ACT and what is their GPA? I just want to know what their student statistics are. Thanks,
Hi all! I got accepted for the 7 year program for this upcoming fall. I had a 3.7 UW gpa (school uses unweighted only), 34 ACT, and a 1460 SAT along with a lot of extracurriculars and volunteer hours. I won’t be able to attend the open house, so can someone snag some pictures or get an idea of how that place is? My family (mostly physicians) have been very apprehensive about CNU and its credentials. I’m also a bit timorous due to the fact that there is literally 0 information about this college on the internet. We don’t know the statistics of the medical class, such as salary, residency matches, GPA, etc. I simply do NOT want to attend a school that could be just like what Trump University was—a sham. So I look to CC and my fellow accepted peers to help decipher what CNU really is. Peace.
Any news/comments after attending the open house? How did it go?
@Mom22DDs Would appreciate if you could share your thoughts about the university and the program after visiting and attending the open house.
@collegeready101 See @mom22dds response in this thread.
My son got in the 3+4 program at UNC. Did your daughter join UNC and if so how does she like it? What happens to students who cannot get GPA 3.5 and MCAT 510. Do you know percentages of students BS/MD that moved to MD . Thank you for you input.
