California residency for in state tuition

How difficult is it to obtain residency in California? Im from Florida, 20 years old, and will be financially independent, I will be working while in Cal but my parents will most likely send some money along the way. I also have $11,000 saved up. I will also obtain DL, lease, voter registration, car registration, etc. I hope to move there between june and july 2015 and transfer into a university for the fall of 2016. How realistic is it that I can get In state tuition?

Very difficult. You can google for the requirements. You must reside here for a year at least for Public uni’s. You will have to live an earn an independent living and not use parent money for tuition, I believe. There will be no guarantee, you will have to apply for instate and supply the info they want, job, lease etc.

Unlikely… California makes it incredibly difficult to establish residency for tuition purposes. Your parents cannot have claimed you on their tax returns for at least 2 years prior to you applying for residency. You also have to prove that are financially self-sufficient for a period of at least 2 years. You are not allowed to go home during summers, but must maintain a lease within California.

rules differ for UCs, CSU, and community colleges. You can find them online with a search. Note, especially, that for the UCs if you accept money from your parents then you are not considered independent.
