California Residency-Regarding UC Schools

This question is for a family friend-just incase it goes against my previous posts.

Our friends have a place in San Diego, California that they own NOT rent. However, it is just their vacation home that they visit frequently, NOT their permanent residence. There son (No stats or anything) is interested in attending UC-Berekely, LA, Santa Barbara, and Irvine. They know the difficulty of OOS admissions, but since they own the property and pay all the bills, taxes, etc., will they be considered residents? They can obviously use a CA mailing adress, but what they were wondering is if the universities admissions department will consider you a resident if your school is in the other state?

I hope this makes sense..

Where did their child go to HS? In what state do they pay their income taxes? In what state is their home? What state does their drivers license say?

Their child went to HS in Oklahoma. OK income taxes, but CA and OK resident taxes. OK driver's liscense.

CA utilities, insurance, etc..

any help?

^^^That's OK residency.

I think it's the state that the parents pay state income tax. The second home in CA does not count.
