Until there’s ink, it’s not a done deal. Never, ever allow yourself to think otherwise.

Good advice rebel.

They have a FA budget that they have to meet. If admissions has overspent that, they will have to make adjustments (read, they will have to UNadmit some kids, either by rejecting them, waitlisting them, not meeting full need or putting them on a FA waitlist, depending on the school). The only school that I know of that doles out the aid after acceptances without give and take to meet the budget is Andover. And that’s what it means when a school is FULLY need-blind. It’s pretty unbelievable that they can do that, too.

I’m not trying to throw water on anyone, but it is important to understand. It’s heartbreaking, but I’m sure it happens every year that there are kids that they thought they were going to be able to admit with aid and then, when the final numbers are run, just can’t do it.

guhh neato burrito do u think im done then?

so say the admissions office wants to offer you a spot but you need to much fa, what will they do?

will they have to decline you after they had already made a decision to accept you, or will they put you on the waiting list, or accept you and only offer you what they can??

candidate123’s contact was from Exeter; while not formally need blind, they are more flush than almost anywhere, and it is a big school where a single tuition is much less a significant part of their budget. And you can be sure the FA officer is running a spreadsheet while they do this process, and the answers as they go down the list of people they’d like to accept that they don’t have complete information affect those further down the list.

So while I agree that they could do any of the options you outline (including rejection), it is most likely to get enough information to make a “fair” FA offer, in line with that given to other students.

I stand by my guess it is a very good, but not certain sign for candidate123.

jyun - I’m not sure what you mean by “done”. Do you mean like toast? No!! Of course not. I think you have had wonderful encouragement and odds are that you are absolutely in. You have much going for you.

Jyun (and all others who have been contacted by the FA office), It means that they would like for you to come and are working up your numbers. That’s GREAT and WONDERFUL to know. They don’t do that to kids who have been rejected. (duh)

@pinklover - it probably depends. Some will admit w/o aid, some will admit and put on a FA wl, some will offer less, others will WL, and still others might reject.

If any of you who have been contacted by FA people DON’T get in, I will be very surprised.

I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to cause any anxiety. Really.
