Parents AND siblings? Even I'm not that gung-ho about bringing my family..

^ I remember my CalSO...my Dad accompanied me on the trip but did his own thing while I went to CalSO...PLEASE don't bring your parents and siblings to the orientation.

Most students don't seem to bring their parents. I personally didn't and I'd recommend you don't either. You've got to get used to campus and living at Berkeley without your parents :)

"CalSO check-in begins early in the morning (at 7:30am), and due to travel arrangements, you may need to arrive a day early. For an additional $31 you may spend the night prior to your CalSO Program in the Unit 3 residence hall."

Is that generally for OOS people? Does the CalSO program include staying overnight for the next day?

I have the same last question as Castel.

hmm .

I don't think they arrange for you to stay an extra night after CalSO itself, though I could be wrong. Just get there at check-in time and you should be fine. If you want to stay in the dorms for longer, pay $31 to stay the previous night.

If you live farther or need time to travel, it's easier to get there a day earlier. Otherwise, the fee will take care of one night when CalSO starts. CalSO is one day and a half.

Is anybody here going to the SoCal session, where Berkeley representatives and counselors come down south?

It's really convenient.

Wait so do we stay one night at Cal or not? Are we just expected to come back the next day from wherever?

I think we stay one night over. As someone said, we stay one day and a half.

The fee covers the one night. You arrive on day 1, stay that night, and then attend more stuff on day 2.

If you need to arrive on day 0 because you can't fly in to start early on day 1, you can optionally pay the extra money to stay in the dorms on the night of day 0.

when is calso? when are the sessions? and is it beneficial to sign up for the earlier one, so that u get class info earlier and can get spots in your preferred classes at an earlier time?

^^All about CalSO

I don't know why anyone wouldn't go to CalSO. Remember the key about Cal (IMO): Cal has as much to offer as just about any university on the planet. But you have to fight for what you get, and you always have to remember you are fighting for it. People don't hold your hand there. Go to CalSO, ask questions, take charge of your experience at Cal. Not going to Cal sets a bad precedent IMO for your entire experience there. Use the time to meet some people. Ask questions about everything and, if nothing else, walk around the campus and the city getting to know it.

calso.. we have to get plane ticket~

We're OOS and I emailed askCalSo about staying over more than the one night. And they said:
1. There is an Early Arrival option (that's probably the $31 option you're all talking about)
2. For the night after CalSo is over, they said that the CalSo website will show a list of places that are available in the area to say for that 3rd night. Which implies to ne staying in a hotel.... That's not too exciting, especially that my D will be on her own. Unfortunately, flights are not available from OAK going East later in the afternoon, so I'm not sure what choices she has....
What is eveybody else doing who will have to catch a flight back to the East Coast or the South?

It's really convenient.

what?? i hadn't heard of this :/

My friend said berkeley representatives were going south to Torrance or something..but I don't know. He said something like it's offered to people who got Pell Grants or something.

when you sign up for classes at calso, will your counselors know what ap credits/college course credits will be useful/count or not?
