Scientific exploration clearly excites you. Beyond our 3:1 student-to-faculty ratio and our intense focus on research opportunities, how do you believe Caltech will best fuel your intellectual curiosity and help you meet your goals? (500 word max)
The universe is the greatest mystery that mankind has ever been presented with, and yet no answer has yet been reached. Many famous astrophysicists and have studied quasars, black holes, and even the beginning of the universe, but none have managed to take us one step further. They all had simply one life, and were able to accomplish great feats, but it wasn’t enough. I, too, have only one life, and I will take their work to the next level. Studying the universe is fine, but it will be for naught if we do not experience the universe, if we do not explore it.
I don’t come from a scientific family, or even a mathematical family. I’m considered a prodigy by them because of my abilities, with which I will change the world, or more accurately, I want mankind to move on from this world, to Mars and to the rest of the galaxy. Our world has evolved so much since the Stone Age. No longer do we scavenge the lands for food and berries, but it’s not enough. Our world has evolved so much since the Cold War, but it’s not enough. The launch of Saturn V was revolutionary, but it wasn’t enough. In order to truly advance as a people, we must reach the Red Planet, Mars. Only then will it be enough.
At Caltech, revolutionary work is being done, day and night, at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who will change the meaning of evolution forever. Teachers like Joseph E. Shepherd and Beverley J. McKeon definitely appeal to my interests because they focus their lessons on Space-Related research. The courses they teach will help me to understand propulsion systems currently used in spacecraft, and to change it. Rocket ships are costly to make, and if a cheaper way to invent them were employed, more spaceships could be made to take us to the stars.
I envision myself, day and night at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, creating cost-effective spacecraft capable of intergalactic space-flight. We must be ready to expand into the stars. We come from a world where the vast majority of us suffer, be it because of poverty, or personal problems, yet hardly any of us see the world as it really is. This world is dying as the echoes of agony reverberate throughout history. Wars after wars, conflict after conflict, and hunger after hunger. This world is too small to support us all.
Caltech offers the solutions to these problems. Along with the intense focus on research, all of the students at Caltech have an equal desire to evolve. Whether it be bioengineering, or the development of powerful technology, every single student at Caltech is capable of change, and together, the students accomplish more than they would alone. Everyone thinks differently, and I know that I would be affected by this. Different opinions are required for us to truly change mankind.
