CalTech Financial Aid - When?

I received my letter...and got nothing. I was going to attend PFW but now my parents are a little doubtful :(

^

starryidsurprise, where do you live? around LA? im still waiting for mine and i live in south cal XD.

sorry for the double post, but has anyone else received the financial aid package for RD? im thinking of calling in tomorrow because its been a while...

i got my financial aid letter, and they gave me 50k total, does that mean i would not have to pay anything???

^ Basically. I just got mine too. Getting 40k a year so booking my tickets for PFW right now :-D

So the only thing that still slightly worries me is the fact that this is just an estimate and not official. What are the chances that this will change?

im wondering the same thing Balaylay, hopefully my i can talk to a financial aid counselor at pfw. Hopefully the estimates are accurate, its really the only way i would be able to attend.

davezhan, i called and you were right, i was missing something. thanks!

No problem. Our financial aid letters should come sometime next week. Hopefully there won't be any penalties such as deductions from our calculated aid....

i got mine yesterday and NOTHING! i don't understand this at all... they expect us to pay over a third of my parents' income for tuition a year?! not happening. i guess caltech's off of my list. mit actually gave me something, so mit- here i come!

Kitkat,
I'd definitely let Caltech financial aid office see the MIT offer before making your final decision. Also, look at the final figures. Caltech was almost $10k less than MIT some years back.

Kitkat,
Make sure you understand the differences first before calling CalTech. MIT’s cost of attendance is slightly higher (about $1,000 in our award packages). If the “something” that MIT gave you is <= $1,000, then CalTech’s “offer” isn’t so bad. Also, note that CalTech severely limits how much their freshmen can work whereas MIT offers much more. If MIT’s offer consists of a significant portion of work-study, its not quite as big a benefit as a grant or scholarship.

I was super psyched when I saw 50,696!
My earlier estimate that I got in January was like 47 something, so when I saw the higher amount I was pretty happy. :)

so is 50,696 the max they're giving anyone, thats how much i got.
