Cambridge University and MIT?

Have any of you guys also looking at MIT also looked at applying to Cambridge University in Cambridge England? What do you guys know about the school? It kind of looks like the MIT of England to me but I could have a false impression.

From what I hear, it's a pretty cool program. You should check out the program website here[/url</a>] as well as Matt McGann's blog entry on the subject here[/url</a>]. More Cambridge students opt into it than MIT students, though.

To clarify -- Timur is talking about the Cambridge/MIT Institute, which is an exchange program for Cambridge students and MIT students in their third years.

So even if you go to one school, you can still go to the other for a year! :)

And to clarify further, Olo = Timur. :)

Thanks mootmom. I was going to say... "Timur is really leaving his mark on MIT already if people are already talking about him, and he's not even there yet?!?!"

@moms: Hehehe, ack. Indeed. I was referring to the website for the exchange. :P

@vu: I tend to permeate the environments I live in. ;)

it's a much better deal for Cambridge students. Exchange students pay their home institution's tuition (and, I think, room and board), which is much higher for MIT than for Cambridge. So an MIT student would pay $40K to go to Cambridge and have an experience a Cambridge student is paying only a few thousand dollars for.

nonetheless the MIT students who go generally love it.

I'm sure that's true. I think it would be a great experience. I think there are some other opportunities for study abroad as well... maybe London School of Economics?

I had an opportunity once to chat with one of the Cambridge students at MIT. One of the reasons that very few of the Cambridge students who would like to exchange are able to do so is that you have to exchange with a particular individual at the other institution who is in the same department and it's hard to get a match.
