Gah…I might call Tuesday if I don’t get a call or email tomorrow. Frankly, I’d rather know on my own terms than wait around all week for disappointing news. Good luck to all!
Anything? Called but still waiting to hear back.
nothing for my kid yet …
I got an email a minute or two ago…unfortunately, I will not be a recipient. Good luck to all of you that haven’t heard back yet though! I’m willing to state my stats if anyone wants.
Hmm…no email yet
I’m sorry to hear that @ninemuses Was it a form email?
@ninemuses , sorry very sorry hear it.
and this process is very odd in the one by one spread out pattern of how the notifications are coming .
@pineapple86 It was from Amie Lucas and it said ‘I regret to inform you…etc’
@splokey It is…
I applied to a scholarship like this last spring, and the order of notification was finalist, general rejection, top 4%, then top 2% (semi-finalist). Maybe Bryan Cameron is doing something similar?
@pineapple86 , since my kid has not heard back yet, the possibility you pose sounds great and gives us a positive reason to keep hoping… but it still seems odd to me. in this process, where finalists supposedly will be interviewed and then winning scholarship recipients chosen after the interviews are completed, I am confused why there would be a distinction already arrived at between finalists versus top 2 percent versus top 4 percent ? Unless I have misunderstood what you meant…and you meant that the top 2 and 4 percent notifications will be subsequent notifications to only those who were already previously notified about already being finalists…and if so, then those not notified yet likely are in the rejected pile and simply have not received their rejection emails yet ?
@ninmuses - So sorry about the result. Did they say how many applications they received? And, yes, if you’re willing to share stats, that would be appreciated. Where are you located geographically?
I’m wondering if geographic location is a factor in the order notification (if travel plans are needed for interviewing, etc.)…the one finalist we’ve heard about was east coast…
@splokey . This was for the Coolidge Scholarship. Finalists (10 or so) were interviewed and then three winners were chosen. But they also had a special weekend retreat for top 2%-ers (40 or so), in which I was fortunate enough to be chosen. But yes, the top 2% and top 4% (excluding the 10 finalists, which were a part of this group) were noticed after the finalists, I believe. This was another first-year scholarship, as well.
@LoveTheBard I was thinking the same thing. But the people I know who’ve been notified have been from completely different areas (Northeast, and Midwest right next to my state).
@pineapple86 , wow ! then if you were a top contender for the Coolidge scholarship and you havent heard back from this Cameron Scholarship yet, it gives me a lot of hope that my kid is in your company status-wise for this Cameron Scholarship !!
@LoveTheBard They did not. My stats are:
4.0 UW GPA
4.4 9-12
2290 SAT (800 CR, 770 M, 720 W)
780 Bio M
780 World History
750 Math II
AP classes taken:
AP Bio-4
AP World-5
APUSH-5
AP Chem-3
AP Art History-5
AP Physics-in progress
AP Gov-in progress
AP Lit-in progress
APES-not taken
EC’s:
Tutoring (3 hrs/week)
Hospital volunteer (4 hrs/week)
Explorer’s Post (1 hr/month)
VP of HOSA/Secretary last year
CSF
Awards:
Presidential Service Award (bronze)
6th place in state HOSA competition
AP Scholar with Distinction
My lack of EC’s/the fact that I have no work experience/little leadership definitely hurt me. I definitely think EC’s outweighs scores in their evaluation.
Oh, I’m also from southern CA
You’re still a very impressive candidate! @ninemuses I’m sure you’ll have better luck with the college admissions process
@pineapple86 and @ninemuses, I was thinking the same thing… !
