So I am on a college trip and considering adding bowdoin, yet wanted to know if it has a nerdy/desolate feeling at all? I sensed that at Bucknell and wanted any thoughts?

It’s definitely not nerdy. Maybe studious and there’s a clear sense of how the intelligent the students are, but it’s not nerdy. When I visited (I’ve been twice), it didn’t seem desolate. It’s right in town and it’s compact enough that there are always people around. I’d visit it if I were you. I decided to visit the night before I did and I’ll be attending my dream school, Bowdoin, this fall.

They’re all just back from Spring Break so it may feel pretty lively if you visit in the next week or so. Brunswick hasn’t really thawed out, however.

Do kids get into a large city now and then, even if they do not have a car? Is the campus active on the weekends? How is the feel for those who love sports and school spirit, but not drinking and ‘frat type’ life?

You can take the train to both Boston and Portland – train ride is very nice and train station is just a block from campus.
