i have heard from a few people that JHU is in a really bad area. They said they were afraid to get out of their cars. is this true??

This question comes up again and again... Of course there are always some paranoids who are afraid to get out of their cars in any city.
No, Baltimore is very safe as long as you have common sense about walking on the street (e.g. not walking on the street in midnight carrying a bundle of cash in your hand...). JHU is not in a bad area - the bad area of Baltimore is pretty far away as I understand, and the campus itself is definitely safe.

the area around campus isn't that bad...just use common sense, kinda like not walking around in west hollywood at night...haha.

there are also some very nice neighborhoods in baltimore

eh it's like every other city

the area hopkins is in is supposed to be one of the nicest in baltimore. but i heard lately there have been a lot of armed and attempted robberies involving students close to campus. hopkins has a newsletter online and it said that north baltimore police are understaffed as well.
