As a sophomore, I had this ridiculously hard AP Gov teacher who didn't like me very much. I ended up getting a B in the class but a 5 on the exam. Even though it wouldn't directly change my gpa, could a 5 on the exam in the minds of admissions officers atone for a lower class grade. AP Gov is my only B all through high school (I'm a rising senior).

If that B is your only B, you have nothing to worry about. The 5 on the GovAP shows that you conquered the material.

AP Gov tends to have a significantly low 5 rate; many people who probably should have legitimately gotten 5s commonly get 4s based on the FRQ grading. A 5 on the test should more than make up for the B in the class.

Additionally, one B won’t matter very much to Adcoms.

i dont think they will be too concerned about 1 B
but in regard to your question, i dont know how much they even look at AP test scores

The 5 could atone for the lower class grade… but it wouldn’t atone for your use of a period instead of a question mark.

But yeah, in all seriousness, I don’t think that 1 B would be that big of a deal. Good luck, and go class of '11!

You’re fine. One B isn’t worth worrying about, especially since you received a 5.
