My grades during my 11th and 12th grade year were both very good but my 9th and 10th weren't but I do have a good reason for it though. If I were to write a really good essay explaining my situation to a school UM-ann arbor.Do you think I'd have a chance. My 11th and 12th grade transcripts pretty much anybody applying.I've looked at their studen profile and there is a slight percentage of kids who got in with cummulative Gpa's less than 3.0.So what should I do?

Ideally, your GC's rec will address the grade issue if there is a personal factor. Is that a possibility?

Yeah I'll tell her to but since she's only been my counselor for a year and a half I'm not sure she'd be able to explain it that well.

In my son's case, we had a lot of elder-care issues going on, which impacted his grades. I wrote up a description of the situtation and handed it to the GC - that way she had a clear explanation to work from. I don't know if you can do the same, but if you are able to convey the information in writing, there is a better chance it will make it to the recommendation.

Writing your major essay about your problem may or may not be a good idea. You want to focus on your strenghts, after all. If the application has an other information section, you could discuss it there. That, combined with the information from the GC, should present your application in the best light.

What other schools are you applying to?
