Can Andover be truly need-blind in admission even if it wanted to be?

The posts from the soothsayers with mathematical naivete remind me of people in Washington, especially the ones responsible for the building of the Federal Healthcare website.

@SF,

Statistics is invented to make sense of randomly varying incomplete data. There is no such thing as incomplete statistics. Data may be incomplete, that is where Statistics comes in handy, as is the case here.

You know B. Clinton also famously said, “I never had sexual relations with that woman.”

Admitting over 400 kids at $50K a pop, I would argue that it is impossible to be need-blind with a static $5 million budget. I know some Andover folks visit the prep school forum. I Challenge them to open the books, and I will show them plenty of brilliant kids needing FA passed over for average FP kids.

@SF - No one is asking anyone to PROVE anything. The request was simply to back up your hypothesis with FACTS or FIGURES. Not just “float a balloon of doubt that might sound reasonable…”

As has been suggested numerous times. One approach could be to compare Andover to colleges that are need-blind.

None of the prep schools admit solely on the basis of grades and test scores. None. Andover in particular turns down plenty of brilliant FP kids.

You should read up on holistic admissions. All selective colleges in the US use some form of holistic admissions.

@Jersey386, comparing PA to need-blind colleges wouldn’t work. Federal aid, loans, and private scholarships are available for students applying to college, but not for students applying to private high schools.

^^ Agree it isnt a perfect analogy, but if HYPM had a consistent amount of FA offered to admittees year to year it could provide some justification.

@graeba‌ - Why dont you email this thread to A’s Admissions and FA office? I would, but DC is attending a nearby school and I know the BS community is small as many of the administration previously worked at other BSs.
