Can Anyone Help This Inspiring Grad Student?

Hello all,

I am graduating this semester and I am going to attend grad school next. I have to take the GMAT and I want to give myself adequate time to prepare. I have pretty much narrowed my choices to five choices - two private, three public - and I am having a difficult time deciding what to do.

I will be graduating with absolutely zero loans and I will have an accounting degree. If I were to get into the public choices, I would most likely not consider the acceptances from the private universities if I were to get into them. However, in the event that the private universities are my only choices, what do I do?

How do I pay for it? My parents will not be contributing to my graduate education. They make ~$120k per year, so I am doubting that I will receive much financial aid (considering this was the case when I got into the same private universities for my undergrad and received barely anything). Also, how does financial aid work with graduate students? Isn’t it only in the form of loans; no grants?

I am just having difficulty understanding how people do this, or are people really taking out $60k+ in student loans? I do know that many people are taking this route… but is there some way around this?

I hope that you are inspiring, but I believe you mean that you are an ASPIRING graduate student.

Check out this link - in most cases, once you have your undergraduate degree or are 24, you no longer have to report parental income or assets and can qualify for FA on your finances.

Good luck.

Brain was friend from finals; literally just caught that mistake when I opened the post :stuck_out_tongue:

thank you!
