I recently got denied admission from Purdue’s main West Lafayette campus. I applied rather late to Purdue . Instead they offered me admission to the regional campuses and I heard that Calumet may be the best one for engineering. I hope of transferring back to the main campus after a semester or year here.
Can someone who has been to Purdue or has a general idea please tell me about the Calumet campus?
Also do you think going to Purdue calumet and transferring to West Lafayette later is a better idea than going to Penn State Erie and then transferring to Penn State University Park (the main campus)?
It’s mostly commuter - only 14% freshmen live in the dorms, indicating the majority of them live with their parents and drive to school, so there’s very little life on campus and it’s dead on weekends (and check if the cafeteria’s even open on weekends).
More than 40% students live on campus at Erie, so while it’s commuter, there’s at least some campus life.
However, the better choice for you is the cheapest one. Both will take you where you want to go.
Since your eventual goal is Purdue (W Lafayette) College of Engineering, make sure you know, in advance, what steps are taken if you were to be a Calument student. I recall hearing in an info session that you’ve got to be very clear in your course choices so that when/if you get to W Lafayette, you don’t miss a beat given the main campus CoE strictures.
