Thank you! We are very excited…if a bit trepidatious. I hope they’re ready for me and my clipboard of questions on re-visit day…lol - kidding (kind of).
My son is an athlete and is eager to jump right in to the sports scene, but we also are eager for him to try out some of the fine arts options.
He has been to Spain as an exchange student the past 2 years, and we would love for him to have a Spanish roommate.
Though Mburg usually has a few students from Spain, there are also a number of students from other spanish speaking countries. Many kids are polyglots. What grade will your son be in next year?
10th.
Random question (maybe for a diff thread)…what should he wear for re-visit? Khakis and a polo? We are not wealthy and he wears a uniform to his current school, so showing up “dressed to impress” in Vineyards Vines is not something we are able to do next week…
Just follow dress code. Polo and khakis are perfect. Avoid jeans and yoga pants and you’ll be fine!
This is great info! On their website they show the class schedule, but they show that it starts at 8:00 and that they have a half day on Wed. So they actually start at 9:00 - do they have full 5 days a week? It’s good to know they care about quality of life. I’m a hard worker and I would consider myself driven, but I understand the need for sleep (because Im a swimmer haha) and trying to do balance.
No classes start at 8:00. That slot is on the schedule for faculty meetings and stuff.
How was the revisit to MA? Are you attending MA in the fall ?
Reviving the thread if anyone else is going to Mercersburg revisit and thinking of joining Mercersburg class of 2020? Our daughter is very excited about the school. Would love to hear about anyone’s thoughts or experiences…
We are attending the revisit on March 28. You do not need to wear jacket/tie but a nice sweater and khakis would be appropriate (I asked). There was something about the school that my son and I really liked, want to explore that further. We live in DC area so the school is the closest to home, he has a few former graduates from his K-8 school that attend and they love it. I will know more after the 28th.
We are awaiting a decision for MA, we applied late. My son would be attending as a day student as we live nearby in Hagerstown. I know several students who are boarders and day students who absolutely love it there. They believe that because it is so far out in the middle of nowhere, it promotes closeness. Most of the day students I know spend most of the weekend days on campus with their friends. I hop that my son will get in and be a 2020 graduate!
I’ve already said a lot about Mercersburg on this thread and others, but will be happy to add more as required. It’s a wonderful school, and both my kids are thriving there.
I enjoyed re-reading this thread now 12 months later, and am pleased to report that my son has had a great first year at Mburg, and that my concerns about him falling through the cracks were unfounded. In fact, the faculty and learning center staff recognized pretty quickly that he was in need of academic/organizational support and interceded this fall to get him the help he needed. He is so very happy there, has made great friends (he’s in a triple with roommates from Africa and Mexico), and is being challenged athletically, academically and socially. I will be volunteering at re-visit day next Monday, and hope to share our affinity for the place.
