Can Attention and focus be improved using "Brain training" computer games?

My child is having issues with focus and attention. I have been researching the internet for self help techniques and came across websites(e.g. Lumosity, Brain builder etc.)which claim to be able to improve focus and attention if one plays their games.

Does any body have any experience with this type of computer game? Have you tried any software or website of this sort and has it been helpful? I would really appreciate your input on this.

Send him or her to chess club.

+1 on the chess club suggestion!

I tried Luminosity.com. The games were fun, but they got repetitive pretty quickly. I really couldn’t tell any difference. I wouldn’t waste my money on it if I were you.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that playing games like Brain Age made you better at games like Brain Age.

(I’d shoot myself if my parents put me in a chess club. Martial arts classes were way better at getting me to focus on work.)
