hey, im a soph in HS, but i was curious if an average kid can get into Colgate...do u have to be a genius with SATs over 1300? or would i be able to get in if i have good grades, sports, and decent SATs? im also hispanic...will that make a difference?
i was thinking about visiting, but if im not able to even have a shot then i wont waste my time

I got in with 27 ACT - I am not sure what its SAT equiv., but it's definetely below 1300.
The fact that you are hispanic WILL make a difference.
You said you have good grades - keep it up! Also, make sure that you take AP and Honors classes - transcript is very important in Colgate admissions.
Definetely visit the school if you can - you never know what you will find out.
Think about the essays you are going to write (you're just a soph. so you have plenty of time).
Make sure that your teachers like you and have something good to say about you in their recs.
G'Luck

yeah! i got rejected because I didn't write their essays. I just sent the common app with the common app essay and didn't bother doing the supplement. I had a 34 ACT and a 3.98uw GPA, top 2% of the class. I was sooooo mad when I got my rejection letter, but who cares, I'm going to wellesley anywasy

Maybe they thought that you were not interested in attending Colgate since you did not write the essay...especially since the essay was Colgate specific, i.e. "What is the one thing you would bring to Colgate?"
Good luck at Wellesley!

tcolgate, I really thought you would get in. I still think you will. Please keep us posted. What is your leading choice right now?
We visited Colgate a few weeks ago with S and I absolutely loved it. We ate sushi, the coach took us on a big tour- everyone was so nice.

did you eat at sushi blues? that place is awesome, my friend who's gonna be a senior next year worked there and the owner gave me free sushi all weekend

i havent gotten in yet. right now my leading choices are miami of ohio and lafayette. i'm gonna go visit both next week and do overnights and see which i prefer

Colgate's admit rate is dropping each year, it seems. i mean, College Board site said it was i believe 32% last year, compared to only about 20% this year. that said, i had a 30 ACT, my strengths were ECs. I'd say work really hard in hs, give it your best shot!

Sushi Blues it was. The owner offered S a job and said he could have free sushi (which would be good- since it was expensive).
Layfayette is wonderful, too, and has better access than Colgate to NYC and Phila. Miami is also good- I haven't been there, though.
We stayed at the Colgate Inn, which I really liked. The bookstore was good, too.
