Don't tell me that question has never crossed anyone's mind-We know this happens all the time-colleges are a business after all.I am talking about all Ivy schools-George Bush didn't get in to Yale because he was smart

How much money would I need to donate to ensure a position in a graduate school program? I really want to get into a certain graduate school program, and I would be willing to donate a large sum to the university if it meant I could be guaranteed admittance.

This is a small college with a top program.

I think I have to make an appointment with someone in admissions, then explain my wealth/influence/prominence and promise to give back to the program if I get in.

Yeah, not gonna work. Even at Dartmouth. If you had given bazillions of dollars already and then later your KID tried to get in, it might make a difference. But it would have to be on a very large scale (like, enough to name a building after you), not just a typically generous amount.

I really don’t appreciate how you claim that George Bush didn’t get into Yale because he was smart. I’m not a fan of his either, but it’s still incredibly unfair to doubt his intellectual abilities in high school that got him into college. Have some respect, dude!

Affirmative action apparently got W into Yale (and Andover before that). It helped him a ton to be a white, privileged, well-connected legacy. It certainly wasn’t his grades.

The Obamas did worked their bottom off to be where they are today. Ivys today aren’t that shallow. come on. Anyone who wants to be at an ivy league needs to show they deserve that title.

Hey Sally,Your entire post about Michelle’s accomplishments tell us next to nothing we can quantify. We can read her pitiful Princeton thesis. We could clear this up real easy. Have the Obamas release their SAT scores, college grades, and LSAT scores. I won’t hold my breath.

There is a number and it is different for each school. I don’t believe it is a building. More often than not, it wouldn’t need to be upfront, it could be a pledged amount over time. This is not a discussion you would have with admission, it would be with the development area and the message would be passed along. I assume that’s how it would work. Of course, the cheapest way is to just have the right stats.
