Can I consider UMD a safety?

Looking for safeties and I am really drawn to UMD’s beautiful campus, location, Honors college, and government & politics major. Can someone who is more familiar with the school tell me if I can consider it a safety?

GPA: 4.0 UW/5.6 W
SAT: 2360 single sitting
SAT II: 800 USH / 740 CH
Potential NMF/NHRP (229 PSAT)
10 AP’s by when I graduate.

OOS (FL) but not in need of any financial aid.

Solid EC’s and a few awards

I have to please ignorance - what USH and CH with regard to the SAT?

@DavidHopkins subject tests. US History and Chemistry

Those are amazing stats! Congratulations! I should think UMD is a safety for you. Furthermore, with those stats (I’m not sure how or if your minority status will play a role, but it certainly won’t hurt) you should also be competitive for the Banneker Key Scholarship. UMD is a great school. Good luck to you!

Definitely a safety for you, but there’s no way you didn’t already know that, so I don’t see why you made this post?

Unless you’re a felon, UMD is absolutely a safety (if you apply by the priority Nov 1 deadline). You’ll have a very solid shot at the honors college and significant merit aid as well. I know OOS makes it much harder for general admissions, but I’m not sure about honors and merit money.

I’m a GVPT/ECON double in the honors college, if you want to ask any questions!

The location’s wonderful. I have many friends who intern at the White House/on the Hill/in various agencies during both the school year and the summer. If you’re into politics, you’ll meet all sorts of politicians who can make the 10-20 minute trip to campus to speak.

I know a couple people from FL with your stats who came to UMD and couldn’t imagine themselves anywhere else. One is on a B/K scholarship as well.
