Can I do well as long as I study in finance?

I have posted this in the business major section but it takes them forever to reply.

I am aiming for at least a 3.0 in Stern next year and I don't mind being a study whore. Can I study a lot and do well in finance (like math, physics and chem in HS)? Or is it that I can study my butt off and still do crappy (like English).

I don't mind putting in lots of effort to get good marks, but I would hate putting in lots of effort and get bad marks. If that's the case maybe I'll go into Engineering.

Well you wouldn't be able to do engineering at Stern - you would have to internally transfer into CAS where there have a joint program with Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ (since NYU doesn't have an engineering program per se.)

what i meant by engineering is at another school but that is not important

Well, I don't see the harm in trying? I think the question is what are you more interested in? I wouldn't worry so much about grades - just look at what you see yourself enjoying more in the future.
