Can I get a couple safety schools please?

I plan to be going away from California after high school, journalism as my major, film/media studies or something similar as my alternate.

I applied to a couple schools but I'm thinking I need a couple safety schools. I want to live in the east coast, somewhere in MI, MA, PA or NY.

I applied to UCSB, UCR, UCB, Fordham, Syracuse, NYU, Boston U, Michigan State, UoM@Ann Arbor, Penn State, Arizona State, can you chance me on these?

first off- you’re a junior, right? It’s a tad late to be adding schools if you’re a senior…

and have you thought of retaking the SATs? Your GPA is good, but your scores are so-so. It even seems low for Fordham, and REALLY low for NYU.
Have you thought of SUNY schools? (since I see you’re looking at NY schools)

I think Bowling Green State in Ohio is supposed to have a good journalism program, and I think it’d be a safety with your stats. You should look into it.

If you like journalism then you should apply to UNC, but its definitely not a safety.

Fordham, NYU, and even Syracuse are reaches. Try a SUNY or maybe Marist.

Do you have any other safety schools to recommend applying to as well? Thank you.

Also, I’m trying to look for one with a sports program if possible, are Michigan State, Penn State reaches?

Penn St. is a low reach, but still a reach.

Thanks, I still can’t think of a safety school. What about Michigan State? Are my EC’s gonna account for anything at all or am I screwed? I am also taking the January SAT if that can help me.

Michigan State looks like a match.

Anybody else? I’m looking for a safety school I can be interested in, any in NY? The thing that interested me in Michigan State is their athletic program as well. Thank you.

Regarding NYU:

I appreciate the statistics, but I need some out of state safety/match schools.

Check out Marist. It looks like a match even though your SAT is slightly below their 50% range. They offer:
Communications with a concentration in Radio/TV/Film
Communications with a concentration in Sports Communications
Communications with a concentration in Journalism

Another option is to check out the various SUNY schools. Their sports teams can’t compare to Michigan.

Based on your list, it appears that Michigan State and Arizona State are your best bets-- good academic match and good sports programs.

^
Thank you very much nysmile, I will definitely check out Marist.

Anybody else?

what about Emerson?

^
Thanks, but wasn’t the deadline for Emerson Jan. 5? Dang, seems like a school of my interests. I would’ve applied.

But I think ASU is already your safety… no?

I’m probably not applying there since our budget is limiting us to certain number of college applications.

Check out CUNY&SUNY… but I don’t know about their comm program
