can i get a student loan

I am a sophomore and never gotten a loan. I will have my two year degree in spring.

My efc is 0. I qualify for the full pell grant, 5550 broken in half for the year.

The cost of attendance for my school is 10000 for the whole year.

I am in good academic standing and go full time.

Even though the pell grant is enough to pay for my classes will I still be able to get a loan for other student expenses? Im at a community college and they offer loans but im not sure if I can get one because I got the pell grant and its not a university. I really need the extra money for school stuff and transportation help because I lost my job.

When I filled out my fafsa I was still working so I didnt put on their that I would need a loan. Will this effect things?

Can you pull up your FA award online and see if they offered you a Direct loan? You’re eligible for up to $6500 in federal Stafford loans if you’re a sophomore. If you don’t see it or don’t need that much, call the FA department at your school and ask them to add loans to your package. Then accept as much of the subsidized loan as you need first. You’ll have to do a short online entrance counseling session and esign a Master Promissory Note…the school’s site should have links and instructions for both.
