Can I get in? please help me see where I stand!

Hi thank you for reading this!!!

I will be applying to Amherst!! I am very excited and very anxious to see if I get in…

I rank 1/408 in my class…it should be pointed out that my school is not that competitive though, at least to me…I am an IB student, and I got straight A’s and A+'s this year…the only year I got A’s in USA so far. I came from Iran four to five years ago becasue I am a Baha’i and in Iran the government as you may already know hates Baha’is. I am also the first of my family to attend college; I also come from a low income family. I wanted to apply to Questbridge but I feared I might get matched to some other college other than Amherst!
As far as SAT’s go, I have not very good because of my not-very-good Enlglish. I will take it agian and I think I will be in mid 600’s in verbal and writing but in 700 in math: hopefully!!!
I am a rescue squad member and i have done several clubs in my high school…chess being the one that I won the regional once with; i also wrote a story that placed high in the county…I am learning guitar as well. The thing about me that I think will stand out is that I havn’t lived here long but since I came to US I literary worked my back off!!

I really appreciate anyone leaving a comment!! Thank you guys!

Oh by the way what do you think are my chances at other liberal art colleges like Williams, Bowdoin, Colby, and Midddlebury! ? thanks

bluepurple, you can apply to only Amherst through Questbridge during the match round, then use your QB app to apply to other’s during RD if you are not matched. Some QB schools are non-binding during the match round, so you could rank Amherst #1, then any of the non-binding schools if you are interested in them, that way you would not be committed if one of them would take you.

You CAN apply to as many as 8 schools during the match round, but also only one (Amherst) if that is what you want.

ok thanks! I am pretty much not trying to do Questbridge anymore! I really dont see the point of it, since I can pretty much get the same amount of financial help with my parents’ amount of contribution. What do you think r my chances if I apply early to Amherst?
thank you

You have a good chance. But applications to the elite schools are a crap shoot. That said, Amherst loves to give kids like you a chance. Just make sure your counselor explains the SAT verbal score. Bring this out in your essay. Work hard on that. The essay is usually what distinguishes you from others with similar credentials. Good luck!

Hi ejr1…I really was considering not applying to Amherst early anymore, because as I compare myself with some other applicants they truely have better accomplishments; but I think the curve is what really matters, especially to Amherst; by curve I mean where and when I started and how fart I got in what time spam…do you think I have better chances at Amherst or Bowdoin for Early admission?
thanks for the comment

sorry for the silly question but what is questbridge?
