I've seen the scores and admissions statistics each Ivy offers, and heard all the stories about how hard it is to get into these schools. However, what I have not heard is what MY chances are of getting into these schools. In order to help me decide which schools I should apply to, I would like to hear the opinions of some of the good people on this web site.

Here is some information that you can judge me by:

SAT: 2050
ACT Composite (No writing supplement) : 34
I havn't taken any SAT Subject Tests yet; I will soon.
Unweighted GPA: 3.98
Weighted GPA: 4.27
I'm in the top 5% of my class
I am in the International Baccalaureate Program
I am an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America
I was in my high school's marching band for two years, and played high school soccer for three.
I am very active in my church, and I'm a leader in the church youth group. I've done a large amount of service work through my church.

I know the systems for GPA can vary, so i'll tell you that I live in Colorado. Also, the only 'B' I've received was in 9th grade English.

I really like Harvard, but I know that it is the hardest one to be admitted into, so I'm considering some of the other Ivy League schools as well. Any advice or opinions you all could offer would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

With no stand-out EC’s and a low SAT score, Harvard would be a high reach, look at some of the Public Ivies (UMich, UVA) and schools like Johns Hopkins, Georgetown.

So would it be more important to retake the SAT or complete the ACT with writing? I’ve been thinking about doing either one, but I think redoing both would be unnecessary.

As chaosakita requested, I can give you more information on my classes. The past two years I’ve been in the International Baccalaureate Program, which is an advanced high school program similar to AP courses. However it is more rigorous than AP in that it requires far more work both in and out of the classroom. For example, one of the requirements for an IB Diploma is the completion of a 4000 word essay. Also, students are required to complete something called CAS-which is a minimum of 50 “creative” hours, 50 athletic and 50 hours of service outside of school activities.

This year I am completing the rough equivalent of 5 AP classes- IB English Higher Level, IB Chemistry HL, IB Biology HL, IB Math Standard Level (which is like AP calc A/B), and IB Psychology HL.

HL classes are 2 years, while SL are one year. Regardless, each IB class involves several essays and/or reports, generally between 1000-2000 words. This is all in addition to testing at the end of the year, similar to AP.
