Okay so here is the deal. I did okay/poorly my freshman and sophomore year. I am now a junior and have great grades my GPA for this year was 3.95 so far. However I go to a kind of sucky school with basically no extra curricular activities except sports and I don’t participate in any of them. I’m thinking of starting a book club. I spent my freshmen and sophomore year in Brazil which kind of explains the bad grades those years, and I am bilingual now. my problem is, is that I dont have a lot of extra curriculars! I live in florida and these are the colleges I’ve been looking: UF, flagler, Umich, Syracuse, but now I think that I wont even get into college, if I do well on Sats and join a few more clubs my senior year and be president of a club do you think I have a chance of getting any of these colleges. Will colleges look at my two years abroad or discard it, does it make me interesting?
You definitely need to make your application more competitive, but you got this! All the things that you’re saying are conditional; therefore if you do those things (which you probably are), then you’ll be a more appealing applicant for colleges. You have some great ideas to aide your application. Definitely explain the situation with Brazil with the colleges and good luck!

I think having lived in Brazil does make your application interesting. I’d be sure to talk about that in your essays! Step up this year to do activities. They don’t have to be school related – volunteering outside of school is a great example. I wouldn’t wait until senior year to join what you are interested in, ask if you can even though it is mid-year. And study hard for your SATs. Be sure you run net price calculators on all your schools, and you might want to include a few more safeties than most students because it is unpredictable how your grades for the first two years will be viewed.
Your extracurricular activities don’t have to be school-related! Find your local hospital, animal shelter, whatever and volunteer there. Like the guy above me said, you seem to have lived an interesting life, which could make for interesting personal statements.Good luck with the rest of your junior year!
