Can I get into Brown University with a GPA of 3.6 unweighted and 4.01 weighted? Also SAT 1550 and a couple of SAT 2s - Chem (780), Literature (800), Math 2 (780), Physics (790)
@aimeegrace781 Can you? Yes. Will you? I’m not sure.
All kidding aside, we don’t know anything about you to really tell. Your UW gpa is a bit low but we don’t know any ECs or achievements or hooks. Your scores seem good but your GPA being lower makes it seem like you are a slacker. Also, just by having good stats, won’t get you in. You will just get a second look. What will get you in are your essays, ECs, achievements, and hooks. Good luck!
@aimeegrace781 This is a great question – Apart from GPA there are other things to consider so, we recently covered this topic in a College Confidential article, which you can find here:https://insights.collegeconfidential.com/damage-control-junior-downturn-due-extracurricular-overload
I’m an Incoming First-Year at Brown who applied ED, was deferred, but accepted RD.
The ANSWER: it depends! Brown, like a lot of other schools, truly considers your high school career in context, so if you constantly and consistently challenged yourself with difficult courses and succeeded at them, Brown will take that into consideration. Definitely apply ED if you LOVE Brown, will definitely attend if admitted, can craft an amazing application (your essays, activities etc. need to definitely explain how the Open Curriculum and Brown would be the best place for you to achieve your goals while also exploring your other passions and interests) by the ED deadline of November 1st, and can afford Brown (run the financial aid calculators if applicable.)
Hope that helps! Good luck with admissions!
