Can I get into Cornell?

I know there are a lot of people on here saying how they went from 70's average to 80's or 90's in junior year, and I shouldn't be complaining, but I had an 88 academic avrg FR year, with an AP and accelerated class, and SO year I ended up with 92.5 academic avrg with AP class, honors class, and accelerated class. BUT halfway through the year I miraculously improved from semester 1 having a 83 avrg to semester 2 having 98 avrg. And in JR year, im in FULL IB with 98 avrg in every class. I got 2250 on SAT and I will get good teacher recs and good essay. I have varsity sports, and theatre. I estimate my UW gpa to be about 3.7. I estimate to be about top 10% of class but might be just outside of it due to not great FR and SO grades. So maybe around %15. However, if only my JR year grades were counted, I'd be rank 8 in the class. (of 400)

1.)Anyway I can let colleges know about this a GREAT improvement during SO year?
2.)I know I didn't include all my ec's but do I have a shot at Cornell?
3.)What are some good colleges I can get into and will they overlook my bad (but not horrible) FR and SO grades?
4.)I know i messed up for the top, but how can i redeem myself?

You definitely have a great story to tell. A lot of students’ grades drop as they take harder classes, but in your case, it is the opposite. You are demonstrating you are able to handle college level classes by doing well in IB. Some students mature later than others, especially boys. If you have not taken harder (AP/IB) courses before senior year, I would tell you to not apply ED because you could use another semester’s grades to show you are ready for Cornell, but since you are having a great junior year, I would say go for ED to show your commitment.

You are and you have redeemed yourself. Have a conversation with your college counselor to ask him/her to do a nice write up about your turn around. It will carry a lot of weight. Try to finish strong junior year and knock it out of the ball park senior fall, you will have many good options. Just make sure you have some good matches and safeties.
