Hi guys! Please chance me for acceptance to Lville!
I am in eighth grade and my scores from seventh grade and sixth grade are all A+'s or A’s (same with this year). I am in Johns Hopkins CTY and I am a passionate reader. I taught myself how to invest from online courses and books and I co-founded a club at my school that is spreading across NJ that is called the Young Entrepreneurs Club of NJ. I am taking a course at Princeton in entrepreneurship and I am also going to a workshop in entrepreneurial leadership that a professor at Princeton invited me to. I am also teaching myself entrepreneurship through books and courses. I am confidant that I can get in the top percentiles for the SSAT (for CTY I studied analogies for 2 days and got in the 98% of all 12th graders who took that test.) I am currently teaching young people personal money management and I am founding a coalition to respond to climate change (for community service) I play water polo on the PTAC team and I am reasonably good. I played soccer for 9 years, 2 of which I was playing a year up (the latest 2 years) I am also in Science Olympiad at my school. I also started investing this year with my own money. I am reading Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Dickens, Twain etc. ON a standardized test I scored at college level for English. I also started teaching myself Chinese last year. Could somebody (preferably somebody who went or is going to Lville) chance me for acceptance?
Hello - You’ve got a great start. Getting into prep school is not easy. Its not just about the grades. The school tries to full certain institutional priorities when accepting students. This varies from year to year, but generally includes legacies, development kids, athletes.
You have quite a good foundation already with the entrepreneurship angle. I suggest to keep working hard. SSAT scores will also play a big part.
Sports can also help, especially if you are good enough to be an ‘impact player’. This generally means if you can start on varsity right away. I’ve seen the water polo kids at Lville and most of them are very good. Same for soccer. If you are as good as you say, contact the coach. The coach’s word can potentially impact admissions.
Probably the most important factor will be whether or not you need financial aid. Although Lawrenceville has good financial aid, it is typically given out to disadvantaged minority students. Hence FA need is taken into account when deciding to admit someone or not.
