I recently got into Providence College, and they gave me a pretty good grant, but I was still not really able to afford it. I contacted them via e-mail, and a week later, they reduced the cost a little more, but it’s still high. Is it worth, or should I even bother, trying to negotiate it once more just a bit lower? Or is it coming off now as annoying, for lack of a better word?
I have applied to many scholarships but I have not heard back from them yet.
I have already enrolled.
Do they offer much aid to transfers? What’s your current net cost? Can your parents pay it?
Keep asking. There will be an end point. If they used up the FA then ask for a housing credit. You don’t care what they reduce as long as they reduce so you can afford it. It’s always good to be honest with them. When your done ask them if there are any other ways to reduce your costs. Some schools can get free books to students etc things like that. It never hurts to ask especially with the economics the way they are now.
My mom can help a bit, but not fully. I can also contribute, but it’ll still be costly. My father is not in the picture. They do offer financial aid to transfers. My costs have greatly reduced via their grants. My current net cost is 7k. I’m trying to minimize it as much as possible, you know?
Is the $7k after federal student loans? Do you have any way to pay it?
They have a pay monthly in 8 parts the cost, so that’s very pricey. I do not live with my mom. I live with my boyfriend, and I have bills.
You can call financial aid and try. It’s up to the College.
Yes, it’s after the loans already. I can pay partly, but not fully. As I mentioned, their only financial adjustments after are monthly payments to that 7k, which would be broken up into 8 parts, as they state, which would come out to almost 900 dollars a month. I cannot afford that.
You can tell financial that that you cannot pay $900 a month. If they can afford to lower your bill, perhaps they will. They are fielding all sorts of calls I’m sure from students in similar circumstances. Yes, do try, because if you can’t afford to pay this, then you simply cannot afford to go there. Also start looking at alternatives as to what you can do next year because it is possible they will refuse to lower the price any more.
Your net cost is $7000. Frankly, that is quite a low net cost for Providence College.
Why did you commit to attending if you can’t afford it.
Sure…you can ask for more. But don’t hold your breath.
This won’t matter at all to the college.
How much do you need your net costs to be? Do you have any affordable alternatives if they won’t offer you more aid?
If you can’t afford $900 per month, you can’t afford to go to this college.
