I'm currently a junior in AP Calculus BC and my teacher is really bad at teaching. I've signed up for multivariable calculus and linear algebra next year but now I'm second guessing my decision since it'll be the same teacher. Should I suck it up and take that class or am I allowed to just drop a math class all together? I'm aiming for Georgetown/UVA. And so far, my class selection for next year is

AP Lit or Dual Enrollment (not sure yet)
AP Physics C
AP Government
AP Economics
AP Computer Science A
Korean 3
Multi var/Linear Al?

I'm a pretty good student and I'm sure that I'm somewhere in the top 5%. I'm not sure about my exact rank because my school doesn't rank students.

My counselor is also pointing out that I'm taking too many APs so I'm not sure if this is my final choice, but overall, it'll look like this.

Any other advice are welcome! Thanks for reading!

You’d probably be fine since you made it to Calculus BC before your senior year, but if you like math you shouldn’t necessarily skip it just because of this teacher. (What do you mean they’re bad at teaching? Do they grade really harshly or do they make you learn a lot of stuff on your own or what? Taking their class might be good practice for college.) If your dual-enrollment English class is at a local community college, could you take a math class there too? (For the English class, it would probably be better to take AP since it’s available.)

I’m not sure on my major but I know that i’d really like to apply to Georgetown’s School of Foreign Services. At this point though, I’m still flailing about for a major that catches my interest.

I mean bad at teaching in the sense that, the teacher skims over a lot of stuff and so most of the class do self-study in study groups. I guess he also grades pretty harshly since most of the class have B’s and C’s and there are some students failing. I’m more worried that many people in that class feel as if they aren’t prepared to take the AP exam in May and they are probably the brightest people in the school. I certainly feel that I’m not prepared to take that exam and I’ve been doing a lot of practice problems every week.
