So my first semester of college (fall 2015) i took general psychology but ended up withdrawing from it because i wasn’t doing too good on the exams. After handing in my research paper, assignments and doing all the exams i emailed the professor and he let me know that if i stayed in his class i can possibly achieve a C- because i aced all the assignments but failed all the exams. I didn’t feel comfortable with that grade . So i am now retaking psychology and aiming for a better grade! My question is… can i take the research paper i gave him in fall semester and give it to him for spring semester? I really don’t want to email him about it, i’ve had my fair shares of conversations with him and im pretty sure he knows me well.
At most universities that would be an honor code violation, especially if you don’t have the prof’s permission. It’s called self plagiarism. Don’t do it.

If you’re reluctant to email him about it, then just be prepared to take a failing grade or an honor code violation.
I think you need to do a new paper. And you know that.
Ask the professor. If it never counted for a grade, he may allow you to use it. But don’t do it without asking or you could be charged with academic dishonesty.
That doesn’t make any difference. It’s regarded as academic dishonesty, and there will be serious consequences, likely including replacing last semester’s C with a F.

The consensus is pretty clear on both of them: no.

@xxariana39 even papers that you yourself have written/published need to be cited when writing future papers. As for reusing the same paper, do not do it.
Thank you everybody for the responses. I’ve realized that reusing the same paper would not be such a good idea.I will start writing a new one. Thats actually what i originally planning to do but last night i stood up 15 hours with my laptop writing and i have yet to come up with a thesis statement under limited topics i can write about.
