So next year when I’m a junior, I’ll be taking Physics (H). The thing I was wondering was if I could possibly learn it over the summer and then test out of it and fill the slot with AP Chem instead. Then my senior year, I would take AP Physics C. Does anyone know of any possible ways of doing this. I have a passion for the sciences and really want to take 2 AP Sciences within my high school career because I want to learn more about it in depth. Normally, you would be able to take AP Chem and Physics in the same year; however, I’m also a musician (another passion of mine) so band takes up that spot. Any suggestions/feedback? Any is appreciated, thanks.
Yes. Take physics during the academic year. While it’s possible that you will learn enough to pass the competency exam, you will more than likely be struggling when you get to AP Physics C, which requires a firm grasp on intro physics. Additionally, based upon your other post, you really don’t want to study both Spanish and physics over the summer. Colleges are looking for more than simple one-dimensional academic drones.
As for your senior year, well, then the choice is yours if you want to double up on science or continue band. That’s really a personal choice, and it’s unlikely that there is a “wrong” choice.
Yeah, I believe you’re right about taking physics in school, it’s just unfortunate because my schedule feels so limited in terms of what I can and can’t take. There are a few more classes (AP Chem, AP Physics, Intro to Engineering, possibly BioTech) I want to take that I can’t figure out how to.
If you think it’s a challenge now, wait until you get to college when you have literally thousands of choices every semester. The reality is that you will never be able to take all the classes you want. Good luck.
If you have a passion for science, I would suggest not skipping the courses that introduce the basics. Otherwise you’ll find yourself with gaps in your education that could prove to be a problem down the road.
