I know for a fact that colleges will like if they see my skills in piano and a good way to show it i think is doing the ABRCM or RCM exam. My skills are high and meet the criteria of the highest level of their exam, but I am not sure if I can skip grades.
Also I wanted to ask if this will benefit me or not? I have other pieces to practice for my audition to colleges, so I don’t know if I should really take this exam?
First, I’m not an expert in college’s admission but both of my D study music and follow RCN’s curriculum.
You should reach out to ABRSM or RCM to see if they allow you take the highest level of the exam. Both my D took RCN exams and skipped a few levels in between but their teacher did all the paperwork . Perhaps, talk to your music teacher to see if he/she can provide guidances on which test you should take and help with registering process.
I think having the certification as credential is good if you plan to major in music but you may not need it since you mentioned that you will need to audition for admission. The preparation is time consuming and exam fee is expensive, so check with the schools you plan to apply and make that decision.
