Can I still grow taller before puberty ends?

I'm already 18 yrs old and my doctor told me last year when I went to get x-rays that the growth plates in my bones were already closing. But the thing is, I began puberty slower than most guys. I have no facial hair and I've never had to shave yet. So that made me wonder if I still had a couple years left to grow. Should I go with what the doctor said and not get my hopes up too high, or do you think I can still grow especially if I'm a late bloomer?

Maybe. How tall are you currently?

I started growing really early in middle school but didn’t get my period until I was like 16. I’m not sure you can relate to this.

I’m about 5’10" but taller than both my parents already. I’m hoping to hit the 6’0" mark, but that seems unlikely :(

Be glad. I’m 5’8" and I’m pretty sure I’m done growing for good.
I’m a male by the way. And I only weigh like 112

6’1"-ish and I’m kind of torn between wanting to grow a little more (I like being taller than everyone else :P) and being happy where I am (certain annoyance that go along with growing).

^^
Haha, I’m almost the same, although I’m around 7-8 pounds heavier now.

I feel like I stunted myself by not eating enough during Junior High. Is that even possible?

If read correctly, xrays are usually pretty accurate in determining how much growth is left.
From your post, I am deducing that you have already had a growth spurt. Is that correct?
How much did you grow in the past 12 months.

i want to grow like 7 more inches

Yeah same. My first period was amazing

I’m a girl and I grew an inch my senior year of high school and then another one sometime after I graduated. It can happen, although not very likely. Plus, I’d listen to your doc lol.

Most males stop growing at age 21, so you have 3 years to grow another 1 or 2 inches. Of course, you should definitely consult a doctor if you’re dead set on reaching 6’. 5’10" is a really good height already, though. I don’t see why you’d wanna stress over being above average height…

You guys make me feel better about my 5’6" 130 lb and climbing physique

milkweed: Yeah, I think I’ve already had my major growth spurt because I only grew an inch or maybe a little over an inch over the past year. But that got me thinking, “If I grew an inch this past year when I was already 17 years old, what’s to say I can’t grow another inch or two by next year?”

Yes, you may still grow another inch or even a little bit more. I was a late bloomer. Interestingly, I thought I was 5’4" (height at 20) but continued to grow slowly and ended up almost 5’6". It is estrogen (converted from testosterone in men) that closes the growth plates so people with delayed puberty may grow into their twenties.

Quite possible. I’m a girl and I grew 7 inches freshman year, and I grew another 2 inches after that. Stopped growing at age 16. 18 may seem late, but boys go through puberty later than girls so you still might have a shot at being tall. And the fact that you’re a latebloomer also gives you a potential to grow some more. I had been short for all of my life, but now I’m one of the tallest girls in my grade.

michael jordan grew 4 inches in college.
