I have applied for transfer to the UC’s for Fall 2018. I am currently a community college student in my final semester before transferring. My question is, can I take community college classes after I transfer to a UC? I am looking into doing a possible double major. I am transferring as a business major to the UC’s for Fall 2018, but after being admitted, I want to look into possibly pursuing Political Science as a second major. While enrolled at the UC (or in Summer 2018), can I take community college classes to fulfill the lower-division requirements for Political Science? How would these transfer? And what is the maximum amount of credits I can cumulatively transfer from community colleges that still count? Thank you.
I don’t know how it works after transfer but the summer before should be ok. Lots of students do it. But be sure to ask, though, and get formal ppermission.
Once accepted, I’d talk to your school directly and ask them. I’ve known people who’ve done it at CSUs but it might vary by school.
If you’re talking about taking the classes while a full-time student at a UC, most of them probably won’t allow that. UC Davis says they won’t take concurrent enrollment classes and, while I cant find info on the others, that’s probably the case for them too. Summer classes should be fine, though I agree with Ohm888 that you should check with the school first. For the maximum number of units it is 70 semester, 105 quarter, though it seems you can still get transfer subject credit, which is probably what you really care about in this case. Here’s the link to that if you want to check it out for yourself: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/transfer/advising/transferring-credits/index.html
Just a side note, poli sci is a fantastic major and I think it would be great to double major. Just make sure to check that all of the courses at the CC fulfill the lower div courses.
Best of luck!
At ucla, they didn’t allow me to double major because i transferred. And there weren’t any ccc classes that I needed. I know someone who is at UCi who takes a lower division math class at ccc
I knew an Eng. major from UCR who was taking his last lower division CS class at a CCC so he could graduae on time
