All, I like to know if college let you take a year off without asking reasons. I am thinking of these ivies, Caltech, MIT, UCs.. Thanks.

Some schools allow you to delay enrolling in the school for one year, after you are accepted. I don't know about the other schools you listed, but Caltech considers requests for deferred entrance for the purpose of studying abroad or working. I would guess that the other schools have a similar policy.

Do you know?

you can find the answer for UC schools in about 15 seconds with google ;)

UC's won't let you... I tried.... but I dont know about the others

If I recall correctly, Harvard will allow accepted students to take a gap year, so one would still be guaranteed a spot after taking off a year.

all will allow only if u have valid reasons. If you say, u worked hard for 4 years and want a gap year to watch all the TV shows u missed, then they will burn ur app under ur nose. If u are going for Family reasons, research, extra study, internships.. given advance notice it wont be a problem

A kid I know was accepted last year to Stanford and then told them he was coming to Taiwan (on a youth exchange). Next year he is still going to Stanford. I guess you have to have a pretty good reason (as he did) to follow his path though.
