I just got accepted into CMU's Humanities and Social Sciences department(Psychology), and got waitlisted for school of Design. So during my year there studying Humanities and Social Sciences, can I just transfer to school of Design right away? Or do I have to do the whole admission process for school of Design all over again in order to get into that department?

If I make my deposit to another school other than CMU, and if CMU's school of Design announce that they will accept me after May 1st, then is it possible to choose psychology(that I already got accepted but did not pay deposit) as well? or would it be too late..?

quick question…

what do you mean by you just got accepted???

i thought decisions came out way back in march?

yea i mean, i got accepted…

just curious :)

Anyways, I don’t honestly know much about the design program so I can’t speak much about that topic. But I do know that transferring between schools is fairly an easy task (except for SCS).
I think you should come to CMU for sure!

ejlim94, I would not just trust what someone might advise you to do just on CC. As well meaning and good as I think most people are here in the advise department, I would not chance something as important as this. Call the school yourself and ask them directly. Call someone in the Design dept. I think what they will advise you is that it will be process of you being accepted into Design but not clear as to how this might happen. The portfolio is very much a deciding factor but also being able to articulate your ideas and write well. Good luck. S is in CFA- Design.

I’m a CS major who did an internal transfer into BXA Design just this, but I think the process is similar. You’ll have to apply again, and the process is essentially the same: on-campus portfolio review + interview. O

[Transfer Applicants > School of Design > Carnegie Mellon University](http://www.design.cmu.edu/show_admissions.php?s=5&t=5)

Two people that would be good to talk to about this: S. Stadelmeier (freshman design advisor) and M. Cicozi (assistant head of design, general advisor). It’ll probably be helpful to talk to more people about your portfolio and get a sense of what you were lacking, and try to beef it up over the summer.

They don’t always accept transfers…it depends on how much room there is in the freshman program.
