Can I write two different personal statements for different colleges?

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if I could use Prompt #4 for certain schools I’m applying to and prompt #1 for the other schools on my list? I feel like prompt #4 would be a better choice for some of my schools based on my experiences that I’m writing about.

Thanks!

For the common app you should just really use one prompt for all your schools. It is much easier and why would you want to write two essays, especially if you have to write college supplemental essays. Just choose one. It doesn’t matter. You will be able to be much more college specific when you write the supplemental essays for each school you are applying to (if required). Most selective schools will require additional essay(s) as part of their application, separate from the common app.

However, if you insist on writing two, then you are able to do so I think First, only submit to all the colleges you are applying to with prompt #4. Once submitted, you cannot go back and change the essay or any part of your application for that matter. For the other colleges that you want to use prompt #1, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE NOT SUBMITTED THEM YET, you can delete the old essay and upload your new one.

You should check the common app FAQs to see if they will still allow this. Sometimes they make changes from year to year.

Adding to what @TiggyB62 said, you can change your CommonApp official essay 3 times I believe.
