Can legacy at Princeton make up for weak EC's? Please chance

Hi everyone. I’m curious to know if my single legacy at Princeton can make up for my mediocre EC’s and lack of significant awards. Also, will legacy at Princeton decrease my chances at the other Ivies? I’m willing to chance back, though I don’t know much about admissions so my opinions aren’t too meaningful.

I just applied to the following schools:
Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, UPenn, Amherst, Williams, WashU, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Middlebury, Colgate, Haverford, U.Va., UMiami
Basics:
Caucasian male, not applying for financial aid (though many of these schools are need-blind)

Academics and Testing:
Class rank: 2/270ish at pretty competitive NY public school.
SAT 2340: CR- 770 M-800 W-770
SAT II’s Math II- 800 Physics- 800 Chemistry-800
I’ve taken the most rigorous classes offered at my school.
Scored a 5 the following AP’s: English Comp, US History, European History, Biology, Physics B, Physics C Mechanics (self-taught), Physics C E&M (self-taught), Calculus BC (self-taught), Statistics
Taking AP English Literature, AP French and AP Psychology senior year
Taking differential equations at local college

EC’s:
Four years of Cross Country (I’m only an average runner)
President of Science Olympiad club and Mu Alpha Theta club, and Amnesty International club
National Honor Society (100+ tutoring hours per year)
Key Club (community service)
Challenge club/ quiz bowl

Awards:
National Merit semifinalist
Several regional Science Olympiad medals
A bunch of meaningless awards given out by my school, (e.g., Harvard Book Prize
A bunch of meaningless awards at local math competition
Other:
Outstanding letters of recommendation
Common App essay is excellent according to teachers who read it. One of my teachers said it was perhaps the best he’s ever read.

Bump… Anyone?

Chancing for Ivies is difficult. However, your academics are amazing and your legacy will hopefully make up for not completely stellar EC. They are fine and I am sure you will get into one of these excellent schools. Good luck!

Chance back (applying to Middlebury too, but my stats aren’t as good as yours):

Thanks Student0067. Does anyone know if legacy at Princeton will decrease my chances at other schools?

Yes, in my experience legacy can’t make up for low stats at ivies, but it can for not having stellar ECs. Princeton also takes the highest percent of legacy applicants among the ives, so that helps too.

And yes, having legacy at another ivy does have impact on ivy admissions. The legacy school is statistically more likely to yield you. Legacies

Is it true that Princeton has bad graduate programs?

Your academics are so strong they just might.
But it’s still doubtful. Because it’s an Ivy.
If your parent has donated a significant amount of money, the legacy might help you.
Also, Pton is easier to get into if you apply for egineering(or so I’ve heard)

Please Chance Back:

um… hmon, how would having legacy at another ivy have any implications when you apply to another school? legacy is independent of the group apps like the common app. That’s the most ridiculous thing i’ve heard.

legacy makes up for anything including weak ECs – especially if you’re a donor. with that said, your academics are pretty much on par with all the other applicants. there’s no point chancing ivies, but with legacy you have a good shot.

Princeton- Match

Good Luck!

Looks good.Congrats to you for working so hard!!

dang… matching a top tier Ivy? not smart lol. HYPS is always a reach, yo

^^^ Not true. If ur VIP- lets consider say Zac Effron or Nick Jonas- you have over 50% chance of getting in, signfying the school is a “match” for you.

Or lets consider that you made it into USAMO, one of like 25 kids in America. You ARE IN at HYPSM.

umm… lol ok. because being a celebrity makes you a “VIP.” i’m talking about regular kids here that actually live out normal lives; not rich trust fund babies and actors/actresses who don’t deserve to be there but are only there because of their names and money.

they’re there because of the contributions they will make in the future.
